Diamond guide

At Grau we are a family business with more than 75 years of experience in the jewelry sector, with our own workshop and the best master jewelers. We strive every day to maintain a close and personalized relationship with the client.

We understand what a gem as unique and special as a diamond means, which is why we are committed to helping you find the perfect piece.

The 4 Qualities

Diamonds have certain qualities and characteristics that differentiate them from each other and make each piece unique, directly impacting its beauty and value. That is why, globally, some standards are used, which we call the 4C's (cut, carat weight, clarity, color):

CUT

It refers to the cut and symmetry of the diamond. The cut determines the interaction of light with the gem and establishes its beauty. A good cut will make the diamond shine in all its splendor.

CARAT

Carats refer to the weight of a diamond. One carat equals 0.20 gr. Contrary to what is popularly believed, the weight alone doesn't determine its value.

CLARITY

The diamond may have inclusions. The scale to assess them goes from FL (Free of inclusions) to I3 (Visible inclusions). The fewer inclusions, the higher its value.

COLOR

Denotes the natural hue of the diamond. Generally the highest value diamonds are colorless diamonds. The degree of color is classified by comparison that goes from the letter D (Colorless) to Z (Yellowish).

At Grau Jewelry we only use high quality diamonds. Each and every one of them goes through a rigorous review process to meet high standards with the 4Cs in mind. Only then can we offer the best options to our customers.

The shape of the diamond

Diamonds can be cut in various shapes. The most common is the brilliant cut, but there are other equally precious ways to cut them like the ones we show here. These shapes add a plus of uniqueness to the diamond and to the design of the jewels.

The setting of the diamond

The setting is the way in which the diamonds are set on the metal. Choosing the ideal setting is essential to bring out the full potential of the diamond. There are different types of setting. At Grau Jewelry we pamper the setting process in each jewel in detail.
